Shooting in South Yorkshire South Yorkshire is a part of the county that does not shout about itself, which means there are venues here doing genuinely good weddings without the premium you would pay further north. Saltmarshe Hall out towards Goole is a Georgian country house with its own grounds and a very relaxed way of running a day. Hellaby Hall near Rotherham is the more traditional hotel option, with the space to handle a larger guest list comfortably. Between them and the Sheffield venues just to the west, there is a lot more choice here than people expect. The landscape is a mix — former industrial towns, farmland, and the eastern edge of the Peak District. Photographically it means you are rarely short of texture, and there is a directness to South Yorkshire weddings that I like. Less standing on ceremony, more people actually enjoying themselves, which is exactly the sort of day my style suits. Doncaster, Rotherham, Barnsley and the surrounding area are all straightforward for me, with no travel charge anywhere in Yorkshire.What it is like photographing a wedding here

How I shoot
No awkward poses and no standing around. I blend into the background when that is what the moment needs, and I am right in the middle of it when the dance floor gets going.
Family formals get done quickly and without fuss — a short list, ten minutes, and you are back with your drink. The rest of the day I spend photographing what actually happens.
