A handful of images the morning after, while it is all still sinking in.
Shooting in York York is one of the best cities in the country to get married in, and the reason is not really the venues — it is what surrounds them. Medieval walls, the Minster, narrow streets that look like a film set at golden hour. Even a short walk out of your reception gives you backdrops that most cities cannot offer at any price. That said, most of the York weddings I photograph are actually just outside it. Sandburn Hall, Deighton Lodge, Burtonfields Hall, Bunny Hill and Woodstock Events all sit in the countryside within a short drive, which gets you the open space and the flexibility that city-centre venues sometimes cannot. If you are marrying in the centre itself, be realistic about crowds. The Shambles at 2pm on a Saturday in July is not a private photo location, and pretending otherwise makes for stressful pictures. I would rather plan a route that uses the quieter corners and the walls, and get you something that feels calm. York is an easy run for me across the A64, and I cover the surrounding villages, Stamford Bridge, Pocklington and the Wolds without a travel fee. What it is like photographing a wedding here

How I shoot
No awkward poses and no standing around. I blend into the background when that is what the moment needs, and I am right in the middle of it when the dance floor gets going.
Family formals get done quickly and without fuss — a short list, ten minutes, and you are back with your drink. The rest of the day I spend photographing what actually happens.
If you are planning a York wedding that is more about the people than the place settings, we will get on.
