Shooting in Clitheroe Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley is genuinely one of the loveliest places I photograph, and I end up here more than the distance from Halifax would suggest — because the venues are that good. The Outbarn is a favourite. Floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the valley, LEDs that make the evening party look incredible, and alpacas in the field next door who have appeared in more than one gallery. Mitton Hall brings the history and the panelled interiors. Holmes Mill is the industrial one, all brick and steel and a proper bar. Stirk House and Mytton Fold round it out. What ties them together is the landscape. Pendle Hill sits over the whole valley and gives you a backdrop that changes completely with the weather — brooding one hour, glowing the next. I would always try to get you outside for ten minutes in the evening here, whatever the forecast says. Clitheroe is Lancashire rather than Yorkshire, and no, that does not bother me. It is about an hour from home and I cover the Ribble Valley, Whalley, Waddington and the surrounding villages as standard.What it is like photographing a wedding here

How I shoot
No awkward poses and no standing around. I blend into the background when that is what the moment needs, and I am right in the middle of it when the dance floor gets going.
Family formals get done quickly and without fuss — a short list, ten minutes, and you are back with your drink. The rest of the day I spend photographing what actually happens.
