Shooting in Lancashire Lancashire gets me crossing the Pennines more often than you might expect, and I am glad it does — the Ribble Valley and the countryside around Burnley are beautiful, and the venues are excellent. Crow Wood near Burnley is a favourite: a hotel and spa with proper grounds and a team who genuinely know how to run a wedding day. Riverbarn at Poulton-le-Fylde is out towards the Fylde coast and has a completely different, more relaxed feel. Ashfield House sits over towards Standish. Add the Clitheroe and Ribble Valley venues just up the road and there is a lot of range within a fairly small area. Lancashire weather is Lancashire weather. I have shot in horizontal rain here and still got the couple outside, because a wet day photographed properly looks far better than a dry day spent hiding indoors. If you are booking a photographer for a Lancashire wedding, book one who is not going to flinch at the forecast. How I shoot
No awkward poses and no standing around. I blend into the background when that is what the moment needs, and I am right in the middle of it when the dance floor gets going.
Family formals get done quickly and without fuss — a short list, ten minutes, and you are back with your drink. The rest of the day I spend photographing what actually happens.
