The ceremony at Lake Henry happens outdoors, which is exactly why couples book it. You’re stood on the lakeside with the tipis behind you and open Yorkshire countryside stretching out either side — no dark corners, no awkward angles, just proper natural light and a setting that does half the work for me. Guests fan out around you rather than being stuck in rows, so the reactions are far more relaxed and honest than you’d get in a formal room. It’s an easy space to move around quietly in, which means I can catch the moments you’ll actually want back.
The rowing boat on the lake is a proper little gift for portraits. Two minutes out on the water, reflections either side, tipis in the background — it’s relaxed, it’s different, and it always makes the gallery.
The tipis are the main event, and rightly so. Four of them linked together, festoon lights strung overhead, firepits glowing and open sides letting the countryside in. They photograph beautifully all day — bright and airy for the wedding breakfast, then warm and atmospheric once the sun drops and the dancing starts.
Alexander Weddings & Events, Lake Henry, is a tipi venue tucked away in East Cowton, North Yorkshire, sat in 10 acres of private lakeside grounds. It’s not your usual turn up, eat, dance, taxi home job either. You get the place to yourselves for three days, with onsite accommodation for up to 90 guests, so everyone actually sticks around. It really does ooze that getaway wedding feel. Four tipis, lakeside decking, firepits and festoon lighting mean golden hour by the water and proper atmospheric stuff after dark. Lawrence and Nina run a tight ship too, which makes my day easier.

If you're looking for a wedding photographer, I couldn't recommend Fabio highly enough. His communication was fantastic throughout — WhatsApp access, a check-in six months before to say everything was on track, and a detailed questionnaire so we were completely on the same page. On the day I barely noticed him, yet he was everywhere. My favourite photo is my husband's face as he first saw me walking down the aisle.
